I have heard about the craze of these adult coloring books and was intrigued by them and wanted to get my hands on one. I have never had an adult coloring book and wanted to see what all the hype was about. When I received the book I began to flip through all the beautifully drawn pictures. Every page is filed with gorgeous detailed pictures. And it’s not just your average coloring book; this coloring book has a story that goes along with it. Not every page has words on it, only a few, but nevertheless, it still follows a little red headed fairy that journey’s out to the unknown.

I thought it was very cute to see a story sort of progressing throughout the book and added a cute touch, so it wasn’t just pictures on a page.  I had read many people that had tried these coloring books said it helped relieve their stress. In some ways I can see that, but I have to be honest and say I thought it induced stress for me. Each picture is very detailed and requires immense amounts of patience to neatly color with in the lines. I found myself stressing about staying with in the lines and wanting to quickly get it done. I was also coloring the same thing repeatedly and it became annoying and I would go as fast as I could to get every single leaf colored! So I will say that you will not finish a page in ten minutes, it will take you a considerable amount of time to finish because the amount of detail on each page.

But I do think this is an excellent gift idea for someone that likes to be creative and color and has more patience then me. If you have the time to sit down for a couple hours and color, good for you. But as for me I probably won’t purchase another adult coloring book. Not that it’s a stupid or bad idea. It’s just not for me.

                It’s Good to be Queen by Liz Curtis Higgs Review

                It’s Good to be Queen by Liz Curtis Higgs is Bible study formatted book and makes for a quick read. This was one of the first Bible study books I’ve read from Higgs, but I have read some of her fiction books. I was expecting high hopes for this book since I have read some of her previous books and this one didn’t fall short. I loved it from the very beginning and kept reading to the very end.

                The book center around the Queen of Sheba and all that we can learn. But I was kind of spectacle at first on how she was going to take the Queen of Sheba and make her an example of her different character traits. Each chapter focuses on one character trait that the queen of Sheba shows to King Solomon. For example, the first chapter is called It’s Good to Be Bold. This centers around the Queen of Sheba taking the trip to King Solomon and asking him questions, because she had heard great things about him and wanted to test him. The first chapter starts in 1 Kings 10:1 and ends in verse 13. Each chapter breaks down each verse and helps it really come alive. Who knew so much was packed in only a few words of a verse.

I think this would be a great study to do with a group or just on your own. Reading this book has really made me think differently towards the Queen of Sheba and thinking of her as more of a role model. Much of what you learn and take away from this book can be applied to your own life. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about the Queen of Sheba or you just want a great Bible study.

Chep Chic Book Review

                I was pretty excited to get this book. Lately I have been into fashion and wanted to get my first fashion book. This one looked pretty promising. It was the 40^th anniversary of the book that first appeared in the 70s. I read some great things about this book, so my hopes for it were high.

                But I was sadly disappointed. I assumed the book would have some of its original elements, but mixed with more modern fashion. It wasn’t. The entire book was the same as the original; expect a foreword that was written by Tim Gunn.  I felt since it was very true to the 1970s fashion it had no real value for today’s audience, unless of course you are into dressing like you stepped out of a time machine. But on top of everything, I found it greatly disappointing when I saw some very inappropriate pictures featured in the book. That’s the last thing I would expect in a fashion book! There was no need to add these certain pictures! I am definitely going to be getting rid of this book. And I’m not even going to give it to Goodwill, in fear of a child accidently flipping through the book. I do NOT recommend this book to anyone. It was horrible!!

                I know this was a short review, but I don’t what else to say about this book, expect it was completely terrible!

"Luther and Katharina" Book Review

Luther and Katharina Book Review

I absolutely loved this book. Everything about it was superb. It was written beautifully and drew me in from the first chapter.

Honestly, I was thinking this book was not going to be that good. But it sure did impress me. Since it is a historical book I thought it would be very stuffy and boring. But it was the complete opposite. It had great historical aspects and kept my attention throughout. It felt like you were right in the midst of the story unfolding.

I have never read anything like this or in this time period. So I was kind of uncertain about it. I know as much about Martian Luther as the next guy. So I was intrigued to see how she would portray him and his character. Since most of the characters in the book were real, there must have been some pressure in perfecting it. I think she did a beautiful job. I really got a sense of who Martian Luther was. He wasn’t just an old monk that rebelled against the church. He was a human with real feeling and went through tremendous trails. I never realized how much persecution him and his family endured. It was very eye opening.

When I was finished reading this book, I made sure to read the author’s notes. I’m glad I did. In the notes it said that that most of what happened in the book really took place. I really appreciate that aspect of this book. It makes it ten times more enjoyable to know what you’re reading really took place. I could really feel the effort and research that went into writing this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a great historical book. There’s nothing I would change about it, it was perfect. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

"The Mapmaker's Children" Book Review

The Mapmaker's Children is a novel that takes place in two different centuries. When I received this book from Blogging for Books I was interested in seeing how Sarah McCoy would mingle two centuries in one story. The book centers around two women that live in different centuries. One, Sarah Brown, lives during the Civil War era. The second, Eden lives in modern day America. 

When Eden and her husband move into a home with many past secrets. McCoy effortlessly blend two different time periods beautifully. 

I greatly enjoy history and to find a book that blended the past centuries with the modern day world was wonderful to find. I enjoyed this book immensely. I recommend it for anyone that enjoys historical novels but also likes little bit of the modern world mixed in.

"When Grace Sings" Book Review

When Grace Sings Book Review

                When Grace Sings is the second book in the Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy.  I have not read the first book in this series, but I don’t think it’s necessary to read it before this book.  Although things might be a little clearer if you read the first book in the series.

                I was excited when I received this book from Blogging for Books. I have read many books from Kim Vogel Sawyer and have enjoyed every one. This one is specifically Amish/Mennonite.  Have read many Amish books before and have enjoyed them. I’m always so fascinated with the life and culture of the Amish.

                When Grace Sings centers around two main characters, Alexa Zimmerman and Anna-Grace Braun. Alexa is a part of the Old Order Mennonite and is just starting to get use to her life as a Mennonite. She helps run a Bed and Breakfast with her grandmother in Arborville, Kansas. Since in the Bed and Breakfast is new to the community she needs all the business she can get, so she agrees to let a reporter from Chicago Stay. Briley Forrester has come to report about the Amish and to uncover secrets that he thinks the Amish keep. But no one in Arborville knows he’s reporting about the Amish.

                The book has a compelling story plot and in immediately sucks you into life in Arborville.  You get to know the characters and sympathize with their predicaments. It was a great book overall and I am looking forward to the third installment in the series.

                I rate this book four out of five stars.
