"Thief of Glory" Book Review

                When I received this book from “Blogging for Books” I was excited to start it knowing it was something different from what I’ve ever read. I’ve read many historical fiction books, but this one was different. The story was told from the perspective of a ten-year old boy in World War II. But it’s not your average World War II story. This one is quite different from any I’ve read before.                                                          It follows ten-year old Jeremiah living in the Dutch East Indies with his family. Jeremiah lives a pretty peaceful and comfortable life for a ten-year old boy. Until the Japanese invade.  Little did he know his life would be changing dramatically very soon.                                                                                                                          Jeremiah and his family are sent to a camp to live at, but his father and older brother are separated from the rest on them. He is alone with his mother and younger siblings.  He feels as if he should take the position of his father and older brother since they were separated.                                                        In the camp they experience starvation, and cruel treatment. But in the middle of all the chaos Jeremiah somehow finds a way to learn more about his mother he loves so dearly.                                                  A great coming of age story. I give it four out of five stars.

"Treat Yourself" Book Review

Treat Yourself by Jennifer Steinhauer

Treat Yourself is a fun recipe book that will leave reminiscing with the past. The recipes featured in this book are all those sweet treats we enjoyed as kids.                                                                                                                             When you first open up Treat Yourself you are welcomed with amazing pictures of treats that will leave your taste buds watering.  By the end of looking through it you will have promised yourself that you would try to make every single recipe in there. I know I did. All the recipes have clearly written instructions so you don’t miss one step. The layout is understandable and is easy to read every recipe.                     Some of the recipes that are featured in this book are; Twinkies, Nutter Butters, Moon Pies, and so much more. You’ll want to make every recipe and show off to all your friends. And who knows you may even like it better than the original. And hey, at least you can say you made them.

The pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn by Lori Benton

          After the tragic death of her mother, Tamsen Littlejohn flees from the hands of her stepfather. In hopes that she can run away from a marriage her stepfather has arranged. But she cannot do it alone. So she enlists Jesse Bird, a true frontiersman, in the hopes that he can get her across the mountains and away from the clutches of her stepfather. But Tamsen is in for more than she bargained for and soon finds that out. Does she have the courage to put her life in the hands of a stranger? Can she escape her stepfather and a marriage to man she has only met once? And could something good ever come out of something bad?                                                        Before I began reading this book, I didn’t have high expectations for it; since I had previously read Lori Benton’s first book Burning Sky. But man was I proven wrong. This book drew me in the moment I finished chapter one. I found myself not wanting to stop reading and could not put it down. The story is fast-paced and exciting; there was never a dead moment. It was a beautifully written love story and that perfect read for when you want something romantic. But there was not just love in this story; it was filled with action and accurate history. You can really tell the author did her research for this book. But the story doesn’t focus on the history aspect of it, but has it intermingled throughout the story to make it very realistic to the time period.                                                                                                                                                      If you’re a romance lover of any kind you will fall in love with this book and the characters. If you love historical books this is jammed full of it. And if you love action books you will love this book. I guess what I’m trying to say is this book has everything and will be a greatly treasured story.  It’s a beautifully written love story that you will not want to end.                                    I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

"A Triple Knot" Book Review

A triple Knot by Emma Campion

        A Triple Knot is set in the 1300s England and follows the life of Joan of Kent. The book starts out when Joan is a child and follows all throughout her life. When Joan is just a child she experiences the loss of her father and knows who is responsible for it. She must live through the nightmares and try to overcome the heartbreak.                                                                               In the midst of a difficult time in her life, Joan makes a unlikely friend in a knight. She soon promises herself to him knowing that the king has arranged her marriage to another man. Joan must overcome all odds in order to come out victorious.                                                                     When I first received this book I was excited to start it because I love anything historical. But I was soon disappointed, I found myself getting bored as I was reading. There were definitely some slow parts to this book. I was almost tempted to skip parts that were uneventful. But I did my best to push through them.                                                                             In the end I wanted so much to like this book, but I couldn’t. It’s a slow read and I just wanted to action to start up. I also found myself sometimes confused by all the characters in the book. There was way too many to keep track of. I could not finish this book for the fact it did not hold my attention or completely suck me into the story. Overall I rate this book 2 out of 5 stars.
